Yes, I know January is almost over. I usually decide which challenges I’m participating in before the end of the previous year, but there was too much going on and I was in a major reading slump.
But, all is well now and I’m ready for some challenges. I narrowed it down to four challenges, though one is really a catchall challenge. You’ll see what I mean in a sec.
Here are the challenges I’m doing this year:
- The BookRiot Read Harder Challenge. I’ve attempted this challenge before, and it really is a challenge because it forces me to read outside my usual genres and often outside of my comfort zone, which is great. This year, I’m determined to complete it.
- The Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge. Twelve books, across a variety of genres and lengths and subjects. This should be a good one.
- The 2018 Graphic Novel & Manga Challenge. This is hosted via a FB group and I’m looking forward to it a lot. My comics reading slowed WAAAAY down last year and I missed them. This will help get me back on track and hopefully I’ll read some stuff I haven’t considered trying before, thanks to the other members’ recommendations.
- The GoodReads Reading Challenge. This is a catch-all. My goal is to read 100 books this year. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve managed it but what with all of the other challenges I’m doing (60 books altogether, to complete my other 3 challenges) I should be able to do it. I just need to get on track and be willing to set things aside if they’re not working for me so I don’t get into a reading slump again.
So, that’s the plan. It should be a good reading year and while I’m a little bit behind already, I don’t think it’ll take much to catch up again. I’m excited about all of the good books I have ahead of me.
